Myrtle Beach summers are hot and humid, with temperatures regularly hitting 90°F and humidity levels above 70%. But with the right preparation, you can still enjoy cycling on the Grand Strand all summer long.
Timing is Everything
The best time to ride in summer is early morning (before 8 AM) or late evening (after 6 PM). Avoid the midday heat when temperatures and humidity are at their peak.
Hydration
Bring more water than you think you'll need. A good rule of thumb is one large water bottle per hour of riding. Consider electrolyte supplements to replace what you lose through sweat.
Sun Protection
Wear sunscreen (SPF 30+), UV-protective clothing, and a cap under your helmet. The coastal sun is intense, and there's little shade on many Grand Strand paths.
Know the Signs
Watch for signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, nausea, headache, and excessive sweating. If you experience any of these, stop riding, find shade, and hydrate immediately.
