Myrtle Beach is a popular tourist destination, and that means heavy traffic — especially during summer months. Here's how to stay safe while cycling on the Grand Strand.
Know the Busy Areas
Kings Highway (US 17 Business) and Ocean Boulevard can get very congested during peak season. Whenever possible, use off-street paths like the East Coast Greenway or trails through state parks.
Be Visible
Wear bright colors, use lights at dawn and dusk, and always signal your intentions. Tourists may not expect to see cyclists, so make yourself as visible as possible.
Follow the Rules
Obey all traffic laws, ride with traffic (not against it), and use bike lanes when available. South Carolina law requires cyclists under 21 to wear a helmet, but we recommend helmets for everyone.
Best Times to Ride
Early morning rides (before 8 AM) offer the best experience with lighter traffic and cooler temperatures.
